BTW, it's not a case of Poser being dumb. MAT poses were never an official feature in Poser. They were a hack which caught on.
There are really only two types of Library files in Poser; those which load geometry and those which act on the geometry in some way. Somebody figured out a way to make a Pose file load textures and everyone took it up to the extent that it's now a standard. CL/EF never officially supported it, though, and later versions of Poser bypass it entirely by using the Material Room.
So, no, Poser isn't dumb. You're asking it to do something it never was supposed to do in the first place.
