It sounds like the files you're accessing don't have the full file path written in the CR2 or MAT files. You could try fixing these with an editor like CRPro or RuntimeRepair (both available here in the marketplace).

Also are you using Poser 7? Make sure you have search set to "Deep search" in Preferences. (Edit>General Preferences>Library>File Search.)
