You have exceeded the laws of physics....add up the polys....if V4 or M3 for instance, times seven, plus clothes, perhaps props or a room? Half a million polys, I bet.
This would choke 3DSMax 9. (I say choke in the sense of having to wait each time you move something around.) Max 2008 is about to come out with this problem in mind and if the hype is right, you'll have way way less lag in the viewport.
The only Poser advice I have is to turn off shading in the viewport. Use Cartoon or wireframe. This helps a little. The next suggestion is to to use lower-poly models.
You could also make some of the models invisible while posing others.
