Quote - Actually, since we're talking about boredom, what I find dull in the galleries is the fact that nearly every Poser image that appears is some form of portrait.  Very few Poser artists take the time to create quality images that are more toward illustration, in which there is something actually going on, and there is attention to things like composition and dynamic lines that lead the eye.  It appears that many are content to simply plop a Vicky on a background and render her.  In the search for "realism" (which is misguided, IMHO, since art is about creativity and imagination), people seem to have forgotten that there are other subjects worthy of treatment other than pretty women.  The same is true of the galleries at DAZ.  I was looking at the featured images over the past few months, and while most of them showed technical skill in terms of lighting and approaching naturalism, almost none of them transcended the "pretty face" cliche.

Ok, to give you food for thought, and to play devil's advocate....

  1. The "Pretty Face" cliche....  i'll start with this one, cus i'm still "suffering" this syndrome.  I wont claim to speak for ANYONE other than MYSELF... but i have found the world in general to be a pretty ugly place.  Even the models - while they may have features lovely to behold...... i've yet to find one that i could show my daughter as a role-model for the modelling world.  Anorexia, drugs, etc.  Its an ugly world.  V3/V4/A3/Sydney/Sarah/TheGirl/Etc - they aren't tempted by the "fast track" grinz - i can make them as beautiful, or as hideous, as i want - and because of the above reasons, as well as others, i tend to lean towards MY idea of beauty.

  2. Pre-Packaged Characters - Many out there prefer just to click and have a "pretty face" instead of playing "Spin That Dial!!" - there's nothing wrong with this, in my opinion.  I, however, rarely use the pre-made characters - they usually don't jive with what i have in mind.

  3. not all have progressed beyond the pre-made poses.  (i rarely start a pose from scratch... i'll take a pre-made one, however, and change it until its no longer recognizable LOL).  There's a plethora of pinup-style poses out there.  Do the math =D

  4. There a lot of folks inspired by the fantasy works of say, Boris, etc.  'nuff said there.

  5. I don't know about other folks.... but the male figures just make me giggle.  I keep trying to put them in my images, but.... sighs  they seem to have the personality of a limp dishrag - aven anton's apollo (and he (apollo, not anton) has more personality than the rest combined) (anton, thankfully, has a great personality)

ok, devil's advocate finished =D  Please remember, these are my OPINIONS, and your own miles may vary.

Rarer than a hairy egg and madder than a box of frogs....
