I have been trying to create my first character with the new Vicki 2, using the V2P4 model. I've read the previous help given in this forum, the help at the Daz Faq AND Poser Arcana in how to remove the unsightly eyebrows from the model. Nothing that has been suggested before is working for me with the eyebrows, although I finally got the eyelashes to take a transmap! They are not perfect, but I'm hoping with trying a few of the other transmaps available, I will get a better result later. I have dark, black eyebrow shaped masses on the model, partly covering over the texture map eyebrows in the render. I did not buy the new Vicki texture maps and would rather continue to use the free Vicki textures for now, but right now, I'm at a loss. I have set the browsgone dial to 1.00, set min/max to 100% and tried with the headtex loaded and without textures on both eyebrow materials. I've tried other various transparencies mentioned as well, but still the black masses persist. Can someone help me please? I'd really like to be able to use the new model. I've included a sample of the project I'm working on to show what I'm describing. Thanks!

First of all - don't use the brows gone dial at all. What you should do instead is this: 1) set all object colours to white 2) set the upper eyebrows transparency max and min to 100% and falloff to 0 3) apply the texture to all head parts

indigoskye ( ) posted Thu, 31 May 2001 at 2:50 PM

I gave it another try as you suggested and still have the dark masses of eyebrows...they just don't go away. :(

Daio ( ) posted Thu, 31 May 2001 at 2:55 PM

If you want them to be totally invisible, make sure you a) have down the above mention steps for the correct eyebrow material (there are two - make sure you do it for the UPPER eyebrows) and b) have set the trans map for that material to 'none'.

1. for lashes, eyebrows & upper eyebrows set trans max & min to 100% highlight & falloff to 0% 2. set color for lashes, eyebrows & upper eyebrows to black or dark brown 3. use transmap on all three 4. in render options, off to the side check the box for anti-aliasing

here's what she looks like with my transmap (a modified non-clump eyelashes) and odessy texture.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Thu, 31 May 2001 at 3:11 PM

If you make the normal eyebrow completely invisible it shows a hole in her head S So just do the upper ones.

shadowcat ( ) posted Thu, 31 May 2001 at 3:17 PM

oops, you're right, forget the eyebrows.

indigoskye ( ) posted Thu, 31 May 2001 at 3:33 PM

Still no go, although when I tried the transmap on uppereyebrows, I was able to get the eyebrows blackness to look like eyebrows...bad eyebrows and no way to change the color, but at least it was not a black mass. For some reason, I can't remove the eyebrows completely. I'm stumped. I've been using poser for a year now and never had a problem like this before. So all these methods -are- working for other people?

3-DArena ( ) posted Thu, 31 May 2001 at 5:26 PM

Gee, I don't undestand why not to use the eyebrow gone feature? Works for me and I get the nice eyebrows that are underneath, and then the texture looks perfect....

The eyebrow gone is fine but it doesn't get the same depth. It looks like painted on eyebrows. The use of the transparancy map on the upper eyebrow does wonders to add depth the to figure. And the eyebrow is changed color through the color control. there should be no texture except for the transparancy map ont he upper eyebrows. if you have a charater with brown eyebrows that you want to tip with blonde you do a golden brown on the color of the upper eyebrow. Do not attempt to make the "eyebrow" material transparant it puts a hole in her head S Other than that it should be smooth but I am not sure I understand why this is so hard S Anyway ... good luck

indigoskye ( ) posted Thu, 31 May 2001 at 7:52 PM

I have not been able to change the color of the transparency eyebrow yet...it always comes in black. Can't get it to be brown or grey or whatever. I would not mind using color for the eyebrows and a transmap, but then the textured eyebrows are showing through. I've been trying everything I can think of on this problem for many hours without success, but I'll keep on trying. :( God only knows what will happen when I try and import this girl into Vue! I'm going to try and see if I can invisible the eyebrows via another means for this project and try and get the transmap idea posted by Ghost to work for future use. Anyway, I appreciate all the help offered here on the forum. Thanks! :)

Indigoskye .. I wish I could just ask for the cr2 so I could fix it for you but it is a Vicki2 ... Can ou do screen shots of what you have each of the eyebrow settings at? If so we can figure out what is going on through that. At least hopefully S

melanie ( ) posted Thu, 31 May 2001 at 9:52 PM

I had this problem, too, and it drove me crazy. Make sure the base eyebrow has NO transparency applied, just the texture map. Apply the transparency to ONLY the upper eyebrow (with texture map). That should do it for you. It worked for me. I hope this helps some. Melanie

indigoskye ( ) posted Thu, 31 May 2001 at 11:46 PM

I'm going to try Melanie's suggestion first, since I think it is not one of the bazillion ways I've tried yet! If it doesn't work, I'll do the screen shot. Thanks again, folks. I've been trying various things with the @#$%^ eyebrows on and off for around five to six hours now...it has been frustrating.

pack ( ) posted Thu, 31 May 2001 at 11:48 PM

Melanie is right. Color "eyebrow" with face map, not a trans or lash map. Transparency =0x0 (maxXmin) Eyebrow color also either white or skin color (same as face skin), not black. Lash transmap & transparency 100x100(maxXmin) only to "Upper Eyebrow"

Melanine, I could kiss ya!!! It worked!!! Thanks a millon. :) I even got a little grey into the lashes. LOL Five hours of frustration are now over. :)

gryffnn ( ) posted Fri, 01 June 2001 at 6:22 AM

Another suggestion - The eyelashes on both your first and last image look like they were rendered without anti-aliasing. Make sure the anti-aliasing box is checked in your rendering dialog and see if they don't look better.

Jim Burton ( ) posted Fri, 01 June 2001 at 7:36 AM

As to the "painted on look",I'm under the impression that a lot of women shave their eyebrows off and then paint them on! As she was resaved so many times with the eyebrow-in morph set to 1, and the effect is progressive, Supermodel Vickie's eyebrows are now in about the middle of her head, never to be seen again! (I'm not a big fan of bushy eyebrows, as you may guess!)

melanie ( ) posted Fri, 01 June 2001 at 8:56 AM

Indigoskye, I'm glad that helped. You can also go to DAZ and download the update for the Vicki 2 maps. They made a fix for it so things end are allocated correctly. I forgot to mention that, sorry. Melanie PS: Just an extra little hint, set your camera focal setting to about 100 to 120. You'll get a slightly better angle on your renders.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Fri, 01 June 2001 at 10:33 AM

That is why I said do only the upper eyebrow in post 7 S But glad you got it to work. Sorry i wasn't more clear.

indigoskye ( ) posted Fri, 01 June 2001 at 11:18 AM

Thanks again, everyone. I am using antialiasing on my renders, so I think that the eyelash clumps might be the transmap I'm using. Someone mentioned the free "noclumps" transmap and I'll try and download that in the hope to make the lashes better, although at the distance I'm planning on using this particular character in Vue, the lashes are probably just fine as they are. :) As to the map fix, I have not purchased the V2 maps yet and am only using free maps that are available. This is a hobby for me and I really like to keep my purchases down to a minium. I don't do alot of real closeup work with my models since I like to set them into scenes, so the hi-res maps won't be of much use to me...and I'd rather save my money for new hair, props and clothes, ect. :) I'm just tickled to finally get the Vicky 2 to finally work properly so I can use her in my next project. Thanks again. :)

gary_ford ( ) posted Fri, 01 June 2001 at 3:34 PM

This is certainly made very confusing. Two 'eyebrow' entries not differentiated and an 'upper eyebrow' thrown in to confuse even more. Still trying to figure out exactly how they work together.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Fri, 01 June 2001 at 4:02 PM

There is one extra eyebrow ... it is a left over but you can tell which is which my turning it green or some blatant color. the upper eyebrow is the one with the transmap S

indigoskye ( ) posted Fri, 01 June 2001 at 4:49 PM

This is off the topic of the eyebrow, but now I'm wondering about the eyelashes? Gryfnn made the comment that it looked like they were not anti-aliased, but they are. I tried them with the noclumps transmap, but they are still looking grainy as in the picture I posted above. Does anyone have a tip on how to make them look more like what shadowcat posted in this thread? Thanks

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Fri, 01 June 2001 at 5:45 PM

Actually it looks like the whole render isn't anti-aliased. In the render option you set that to be on and render. It comes in as off in the default. Another option is to increase the map size of your lights. the dafault is 256 which render clumpy on shadows and stuff. I normally do 1024 but it does increase render time somewhat.

indigoskye ( ) posted Fri, 01 June 2001 at 6:45 PM

Ah...thanks Ghost! I tried your suggestion and my character is now with good eyelashes! This has been a positive forum experience for me...never posted here before. Thanks again to you all for taking the time to help me. :) It is greatly appreciated. :)
