when I try to selecy an object (for example a cilinder), the list of objects that appear is very long; for exemple, the list shows all the cylinders from all the columns. Is there a way to hide their names?

You can't hide the names but you can CHANGE the names to something more meaningful than 'cylinder 1' for example.

In the [A] in the object icon column you can re-name your object.

Also, you can assign like obects a FAMILY by using the colour change icon in the object icon column (beneath the [A]. These means that at a glance to can identify, select and perhaps group families of objects, for example: all your temple's uprights.
