The only thing that comes to mind is the props might be what is called..smart prop. That means it will position itself to whatever body part it was parented to when saved, if asked to save as a smart prop. It can be a bit confusing to find since you have to determine what is it parented to. It could be a sword in a sheath for example; the sword is smart proped to the sheath so it loads with it. To find the sword you would have to find the sheath then the sword. Not sure if I'm explining this easily or confusing you more.
