Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
I could be wrong (and frequently am), but is it possible this stuff is stored in the .mtl file, which Poser doesn't use? I've made some things for poser, and they at least show up as areas in the Material room. Don't know, but good luck.
I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

It doesn't sound as if your mesh has any groups in it - they need to be there, and their names need to match exactly with the actors in your CR2. If you think you should have groups, this can be tested quite easily by opening the mesh in UVMapper and using the Select by Group function - which will list what's in there. *** Pakled, yer wrong. :) Poser ignores MTL files - and in any case, they store only material definitions, not groups.
I have posted this reply to let you know the groups are there!I have just checked with UVMapper and the groups are in the mesh and are properly named.
But let me make you a rundown of the process (maybe I do something wrong) :
- I export the model as .obj with groups properly named
- when loaded in UVMapper, the groups are selectable, so they exist
- I import the .obj in Poser and with hierarchy I create a new character
- I move the new character from where was created to where I want it
- I open the library and insert the character in the scene
- I resave the character over in the library (I do this in order to get out the .obj from the character)
- I move this new .obj into the Geometries
- I open the .cr2 and correctly refference the new .obj (":Runtime:Geometries...and so on), two lines need to be modified
- I insert the character in the scene and I resave it over again (this time to tidy up the .cr2 file and make it smaller)
It works for most of my models, but something might escape me now...
Also, I did all these in Poser 7.
I don't understand this part:
Quote - - I resave the character over in the library (I do this in order to get out the .obj from the character)
I agree that you should re-save a character made by PHI import, because that seems to straighten things out which would otherwise cause trouble in the joint editor. But you should have an external geometry already. Maybe Poser 7 does things differently. Anyway, have you checked the new obj you get by this method has the correct groups?
Have you looked at the actual text of the OBJ file? UVmapper
may be interpreting the 'g' lines differently, not showing you
the problem. If you have any double names like
g Figure 1 lShoulder
or
g lShoulder Decoration
then Poser will hate you.

@eBob: Poser does read the MTL file on import, but in most cases you're
better off just deleting it and starting fresh on materials.

In case you;re using cr2edit...
One thing that I noticed recently is that every now and then when I use cr2edit it corrupts my cr2. I started changing paths manually, in a notepad.
When the cr2 gets corrupted, I;d get odd results, sometimes there are no groups, sometimes you see them byt can't select them, other times there's a body part missing.

I have checked the new .obj and the groups have modified names like abdomen bra (bra is the name of my model). So it looks like Poser is adding the name of the model at the end of each body group. But I have fixed those manully in NotePad so the names are ok now.
But now it get even worse! When I insert the model in the scene, everything is just as in the previous situation, only now my model is also invisible!I can select it, but I can't see it.And this happens in both Poser 5 and Poser 7.
I really don't know what to do anymore...
Back up a little bit. Chances are, when you were editing the OBJ in notepad, something bad happened. I strongly recommend you roll back a little bit, to your modeling application, and try again.
I think you will be much less frustrated if you try to nail down the exact procedure in a simple case, rather than trying to learn all of it at once with a very complex model like a typical clothing item.

Hy there!
I have tried to make a conforming cloth for V4 manually.I have imported the .obj in Poser and with the hierarchy editor I have created the .cr2.Also, it seems it took over the groups in the .cr2 for the different body parts.
In conclusion, when I am in the group editor, I can see the groups and are properly named. But in the scene I canot select the groups, just the whole body. What did I did wrong?
Thank you in advance!
Best regards!
