yeah i know thats what they ought to be but give me some proof of the differences between using 2000x2000 as opposed to 2048x2048.

Its the same as resizing images in photoshop. You will get better results with less pixelation going by powers of two.  But as for rendering I have found no noticable difference in render times or the way it looks.
