As for the mat poses thats what I meant by redoing the shaders.. 
I have texture and pose folders for different resolutions.

The program I use to resize images is called fotosizer.

works great and I've never had a problem with it. 

As for the geometry yeah its a bit of hand carving to get what you want. 
You can export just the parts you want as .obj and then import as a prop.
Take it into the setup room and use the existing rig from the original figure and let poser do
its automatic setup. Then save it as your low res figure.

What I wish is that poser made use of normal maps. Its a great way to get a high res looking model with very little geometry.

A program is in the works to simplify this whole process.
