I use hexagon to make clothes all the time. It's really really slick and easy to use!
It does everything I needed so far, and if you catch it on DAZ sale, you can get it really cheap... $1.99 to $30 depending on which sale you stumble upon.
It has really nice UV mapping unwrap tool.

Clothing sims were made in max, models were built in Hex.

Get hex, and use the rest of the money to get additional bells and whistles, like Vue ;)
