Following up on a previous discussion about rendering and graphics cards. I found that Nvidia have produced some software called "Gelato" which is a renderer which spreads the load between the CPU and GPU.

The question which I can't work out the answer to is, can I export data from Carrara to Gelato? There seems to be an Obj importer mentioned on the forums but that would be a bit limiting.

Gelato com read RIB files... I saw a rib exporter for DazStudio sometime but cant find. Would be good to have a RIB exporter for Carrara, many renders use this format.

Much of what I've read about Gelato from users is not that positive. Not that fast, not that good, etc.

You are right, there some software like the Lightwaves FPrime that can do the same job and much fast.

It's a good point, what's the reason to use a GPU accelerated renderer that ends up performing slower than your CPU based one? I still think there's a future in using the GPU's facilities for rendering but perhaps it's further in the future than I thought.

I think tht GPU render is a good idea but you need a very good GPU... theres some Nvidia Gpu that is very expensive... maybe its better to get  a render farmer to do the job.
