I'm far from an expert but I do use Daz.
I didn't understand the magnetize either..but i read that the only one you use in Daz is the first one..that the others were for using in Poser...so that's the only one I use.  I select the clothing and dbl clik the 1st magnetize and it works.
As for the other stuff...I have poser installed and i put the poser stuff in poser and the daz stuff in daz and point daz to poser so everything installed in poser works pretty good in daz. There are some things that just won't work but usually the readme tells you if it will or not.
As for some free things not working...they just don't..some of them are just not put together right.  My biggest bitch is that some people leave the path in that goes to their own hard drive and since I don't have their hard drive..I either have to go  in and fix/locate the file...or get rid of the whole install.  
I don't have cross dresser.
