With Hex and Carrara you can only create morphs for  cloths that you buy. If your intention is create Poserlike content you will need Poser, verion 5 its OK.
If you wil create your character from scratch in Hex or Carrara  and will rig into Carrara, so all  you need is those software.
A good start is the book Carrara 5 pro handbook from Mike de La Flor
You can find good video tutorials at  http://www.polyloop.net/  too
Other idea is to watch video done in other softwares then you can  use  Carrara  or Hex tools  to do the almost same process.
