Subject: Vue Personal Learning Edition Question

Speed44 ( ) posted Sun, 16 December 2007 at 12:07 PM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 7:53 AM

I am using the PLE and VUE 6 Revealed by Richard Schrand. While working through Lesson 4, Chapter 2, the Basic Material Editor is referred to and shown. However, I am not able to, or can't figure out, how to access it. I get the Material Selection screen but  not the Basic Material Editor.

I thought the PLE was fully functional...but maybe it isn't ?

If anyone is familar with the PLE perhaps they could help me out.

TIA

Click the button outlined in red to change between advanced and basic material views.  This is currently showing the advanced in Vue 6 Infinite but so far as I know, it's the same in all versions

I suppose that what you get is the "advanced material editor", if so, in the upper right corner of the window, click on "basic material editor", and you will switch to the basic editor. When you are in the basic mat ecitor, the same box will be there, but this time saying "advanced material editor", so you get in the advanced editor with one click.

Thank you. I did finally find it.

As good as this book is...sometimes a process is not fully explained and it can be very frustrating for a novice.

Still, it is a valuable resource and well worth the money.

Hmm...I only get the Basic it looks like - with no button to change to advanced. Is there more than one material editor?

There is a Basic Material Editor and an Advanced Material Editor. You should be able to switch back and forth with a button in the upper left corner (see above). It took me a while to figure it out. I got to it by first selecting the Materials tab, on the right, next to the Objects tab. Then double clicking on a material that I had assigned to an object. That brought up the Basic Material Editor.

Ah, there it is. Thanks Speed!

Very impressed with this application. i'm a longtime Brycer, since '94, so it's going to take a little time to get used to this interface. But it looks very powerful.

I too, used Bryce 4, then sort of lost interest. I got Bryce 6 for $49 not too long ago and really struggled on a project so decided to give the PLE a try using VUE6 Revealed by Richard Schrand.

I find it much easier to use than Bryce...reminds me of Rhino 3D, which I have used for years.
Just have to decide which version to get.

I only started using it this morning - and Vue has definitely won me over for doing large-scale landscapes. I'll never totally give up Bryce - just too familiar and I've been able to integrate my entire content library into it and really getting into it with the new version of Daz Studio. But I've recently become addicted to creating large scenes with detailed vegetation after getting into the Elder Scrolls Oblivion game on PS3 and seeing SpeedTree and its tools in action. :)

I've been wanting to do animation with realistic blowing grass and trees like that for a long time. I work a lot in the Unreal Engine and was thinking of trying to do it using Machinima methods - but then I found out how much the SpeedTree suite license was. Ouch. Great program though.

But Vue's a LOT cheaper than SpeedTree! :D
