Subject: Hair refuses to be translated

saus69 ( ) posted Thu, 27 December 2007 at 6:03 PM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 2:51 AM

I just loaded up DejaVu hair and added it to a V4 figure.

However, it doesn't align with the head properly.

So what I did was try the ytrans dial, but the hair just refuses to move. In addition, the dial increments are very small, almost like something is preventing the dial from sliding. Manually entering a value doesn't work either as it is reset to zero as soon as i press enter.

Does anyone know what's wrong?

...does it have a "hip" part? If so, you can move that (instead of the figure) and see if it works.

Conformed figures usually don't allow you to move the "figure"... you have to move its base part (usually the 'hip') to get it to budge.

If it won't move from the hip, unconform it.  Move it into place, then parent it to the head.

There's no hip.. only head and base, and base only has scale dials. No translations.

DejaVue hair I believe is for A3 so what you'll probably have to do is load it but not conform it then use the poser movement tools to move it into place if it doesn't have any dials.  The head might have the trans/scale/rotate dials in it though.  once you are done, parent to V4s head and you should be good to go

Try unconfrom, move into place, parent to head :)

The original DejaVu hair was for V3 & A3, Fabi made a V4 version this year. Have you got the right one?

saus69 ( ) posted Thu, 27 December 2007 at 7:05 PM

I keep seeing 'unconform'. Does this mean select the conform box and conform it to 'none'? It's already unconformed if this is the case.

stormchaser ( ) posted Thu, 27 December 2007 at 7:07 PM

Have you tried to conform it? If it's the right DejaVu hair for V4 it should fit no problem.

saus69 ( ) posted Thu, 27 December 2007 at 7:12 PM

It's the hair for V3. Is it possible at all to use it on V4?

Anyway I just tried the translate button, instead of dial. Pulled the hair left and this is what happened:

Seems like it's still anchored to something, but I checked and it's not parented to the v4 figure.

stormchaser ( ) posted Thu, 27 December 2007 at 7:15 PM

OK, keep it non conformed. Use your translate & scale dials to get it as close to what you want as possible. Then parent it to the head.

saus69 ( ) posted Thu, 27 December 2007 at 7:25 PM

I give up... it's not responding to dials or buttons at all. All other hairs I have don't have this problem. does anyone have a link to the V4 dejavu hair in the marketplace? Dejavu hair doesn't seem to be listed anymore.

**saus69 - Take it easy, I know how frustrating this Poser stuff is. Here's a link for the V4 DejaVu hair:

**It's quite dear as it's part of a bundle.

Do you want me to try & replicate what you're doing? I can load up a base V4 & try & fit the V3 DejaVu hair to her.**

saus69 ( ) posted Thu, 27 December 2007 at 7:50 PM

It's ok..

It's been some months before I last played with poser so I must be forgetting something.

what I did was load up V4.0, run the nanette FB morphs on it, and then load up V3 Dejavu hair. Doesn't conform at all; it ends up looking too stretched vertically. Dial and buttons for translation and scaling do not work at all; nothing happens and the values hover around 0.0000x rather than 0.1.

I'll check out the new hair pack first.

saus69 - I know what the problem is as I just tried to work it out. The dials on the hairs body won't work because it's locked. Go to 'object' & uncheck 'lock actor'. Now you can translate the hair & fit it. I hope you can now get this working, it will save you having to buy it for V4, unless you want to do that anyway.
BTW, good choice, Fabi's hairs are some of the best out there.

saus69 ( ) posted Thu, 27 December 2007 at 8:01 PM

Thanks a lot! This locking thing is something totally new to me. It appears to be working fine now.. I'll see what I can come up with.

stormchaser ( ) posted Thu, 27 December 2007 at 8:05 PM

Just to show you that it does work:

stormchaser ( ) posted Thu, 27 December 2007 at 8:06 PM

Glad you've got it going now!

FrankT ( ) posted Thu, 27 December 2007 at 8:21 PM

FK Designs hair are brilliant for Vue. Looks great & you don't have to grow a beard while waiting for them to render, LOL!!
