I finally found the controls on the StringOfPearls expression.  Here I was searching for UserData on the XPresso node and the Spline.  It's on the Null object with the XPresso node!  So there are some controls to this little goodie.

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.
