Here's how the numbered 'layout' image looks when rendered. I set the option to 'Use HDRI as Background', disabled the sun, rotated the camera 90 degrees each time, with a 90 degree field-of-view. You can see where the image gets distorted by the 'shrink-wrap' process, pulling the edges around to the back.  (As well as detect how imprecise the layout image was originally... *grin*... ie, not aligned to the exact center of the image, etc.   )
