You know that's actually a pretty good name for it, since with IBL you do get things lit around the back, and the front, sides, top, bottom etc etc.
(actually means "Image Based Lighting" but as in the light lab it just says IBL, that's what most people call it.)
"The RR (Random Replicate) you mention could that be used in a terrain situation to create city blocks of various heights, a city scape if you like?"
Well I could... but as I already made a load of city blocks in Wings and imported them to Bryce some time ago... well I'd have to have a lot of time on my hands to use RR for that...
I'm (of and on, when I have time) creating roads and city buildings to more of a plan than randomness will allow.
" As I have this urge to create a city then make the camera fly through the streets between the blocks.
Is this possible in Bryce ?"
It certainly is, it's often been done before.
But if I was doing one, I'd want more accuracy and detail than a randomly replicated city could produce, since the camera would be pretty close if flying down streets, and you'd need good details or it'll look... well... crappy.
"Moving to the timeline I moved Monkey around etc etc.
I in all done 37 frames. A tad over one second.
One hour and fifteen minutes later the render completed!!!!!
I must have been doing too much at once.???"
Nope, sounds pretty normal to me, actually 37 frames in one and a quarter hours sounds quite fast! Depending on how big the renders were, and how much glass, lights and complex textures there were.
" Many thanks for all your freebies out there Fran."
You're welcome.
dan whiteside,
40 trees or 12 rocks or grasses, eh?
Right ho. I've not used trees much since I don't think much of the quality of them. Especially for close-ups.
I'll have to investigate this RR box and the land function... sounds simple enough. Thanks for the info.
deadwarrior,
*"As I remember, you can use Bryce to make heightfield cities in the Terrain Editor by selecting an option, then dragging while holding the control key (if you're using Windows).
Anyone remember how to do that?"
*Nope, be interested if you find out though.
*"I haven't used Blender enough to know how easy it is to model a city (I'm sure it can), but you could try Wings3D, (I've been banned, what the hell)."
*You know it wouldn't be that hard to make some pretty decent cities in Bryce itself, even without using the terrain editor. If you had the time to do it... (I'm currently very busy)
*"Fran and many, many other make some fantastic models with that free program."
*Aw... ain't he sweet? Thanks for that.
