Subject: UK Lens cleaning service?

mark.spooner ( ) posted Tue, 04 March 2008 at 9:21 AM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 4:24 AM

I'm looking for a company or individual in the UK to clean the inside of a lens of mine and I'm hoping one of you can recommend  someone.

The lens is a Tokina AT-X 100mm macro that I bought about 10 years ago, it may be old and a little slow and heavy compared to modern macros but  it has been instrumental in the production of many of the images in my gallery and I would hate to lose it.  The contamination inside the lens barrel doesn't appear to be organic but you can see its effect it has on captures when using extension tubes although there is no effect when using the lens normally.

You are very welcome Mark as an aside fungal growths can be a problem with the old leather cases that older lens used to come in as they are organic and thus far more liable to produce the fungal spores..   There is not a lot we can do once they get inside a lens..And the internal cleaning may work as long as it is not etched onto the glass in any way..  And for general advice for other readers to your thread makes sense to keep gear dry and not sealed in any case that cant breathe or does not have  good air circulation..
