I think you just need lots of layers of leaf for the x-ray transparency to show up, otherwise I think the x-ray green is working, it's just not showing up much...

If your green is going to yellow and white with the camera angle change, either that's unavoidable or else maybe start off with a deeper green and pick the green from the bluer end of the greens not the yellower side.
