I guess the prices of ram are falling.  You can buy 4 gigs of performance Kingston ram for DDR2 at 800 mhz for just over $140.  Check the link below:

I recently dumped my old AMD cpu/motherboard for an Intell Core 2 Duo E4600 Chip with an ABIT IP35-V motherboard.  I've been slowly reloading various operating system configurations onto it and am wondering about using Vista 64bit.  Previously I had XP 64bit and it all worked okay.  However, my curiosity with Vista is getting the better of me so I'm going to be loading up a configuration with that and hope all goes well.  From what I've read here, I think it should be okay because my board and chip are new.

As for 8 gigs ram being insane it is not for something like Vue.  When you start to have vue images with 5 poser characters imported, each with accessories, along with many plants, etc. you'll find that all that ram will help make your work move more smoothly than with less ram.  Things begin to really crawl with dense Vue scenes when you don't have enough ram.
