Depends on the laptop. My laptop has an nVidia 8600GM graphics chip with 512 MB dedicated video RAM, and 3D apps fly on that machine (including recent 3D games).
Although I admit that my desktops are better equipped for 3D (8800GT is way, way better than 8600).
The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter
