I remember a lot of folks had stability problems with v.2. The patch to 2.1 helped some, but v.3 helped a whole lot more. I started with v.2 myself, but didn't experience a high frequency of crashes. However, I also have found v.3 (3.1) to be generally more stable overall. The thing I learned was to save, save, and save again. :)
