Right.. we needed the face normals (and some sort of neighbor info) before doing vertex normal calcs, so we just hadn't reached that point yet.

To be frank, I was wondering about that and am not sure - let me know how that works out for you :) (it should either work, or cause and exception, so it's easy enough to test).  If it doesn't work, I have an idea of how to possibly implement it.
