Bryce and maya are two entirely different applications.

Bryce is cheap, easy to use, but limited in its abilities. The renderer is nice, yet slow.
Modelling in bryce is mostly boolean, you shouldnt expect to do much of organic modelling in it.
For animation, it is possible to use bryce, but no doubt maya has a gazillion more options available for this.
