Ok, it looks like this same non-zero test causing the problem... I hadn't looked closely enough at that test - it turns out that it only returns true if ALL axis have a non-zero values. So, if vec.x = 10000000000.0 (any non-zero value) but vec.y and vec.z were both 0.0, then "if vec:" would return a 'false' condition (!) heh.
I'll fix that in the next build.
