The render cache has nothing to do with memory usage, the prior renders are saved as uncompressed bitmap files on disk.
The undo/redo cache can be a culprit. I've set it to remember 5 actions instead of the default 100, and it sure saves quite a bit of memory.
The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter
