What I actually meant is that Vue clouds' shadow detail is pretty low ( compared to reality ). The "detail" slider does not much more than increase detail for the actual outlined-shape not the shadows within the clouds shape.
Many real clouds tho look like the Vue clouds, but when they're young they're still expanding giving this explosive look that Vue's spectral model can't create ( yet? ). That'd of course be a very detail render.
Sorry but the fact remains that tgtp has more slider for long-time rendered cloudscapes and I was wondering how they actually achieve that detail.
I saw a pic of one cloud-only-render that looked similiar to the second picture above that took about 40 hours in time!

That is a very nice idea. I bet this could be achieved using a model or terrain.
