That imitation applied to Poser 4.
Poser 5 and later can handle very large libraries. My main runtime is over 30 GB, the libraries contain over 100,000 files, which means 50,000 items, and it behaves just fine in Poser 5, 6 and 7.
The only problem of a runtime this size is that Poser startup is slowed down. It can take over a minute before it's ready. After that, Poser works just fine, there's no difference between 5, 6 and 7 in this respect.
The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter
