First question...
Definitely get rid of Texture Filtering. That will actually decrease quality if you use it. Reducing Bucket size won't compromise your render quality but it may help Poser render your image, even if it takes a little longer. For most purposes, reducing texture size won't greatly affect your render quality but it's something I don't use. You can also try breaking your scene into smaller pieces then comping them back together in Photoshop. I use this a lot.
Second question...
Dunno, sorry. It's possible that a texture reference is screwed up somewhere but nothing reallysprings to mind.

Edit - General Preferences. Go to the Misc tab and uncheck the "Use external binary morphs" option.
