It's not possible to create groups using Python.
It is possible to assign polygons to existing groups using Python.
If you don't want to do it by hand, the best option is to do the search/replace routine Conniekat8 mentions.
The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter
