Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
Phantom3D has a very impressive piece of work running as well, although he's not too interested in the forum here. He works on it daily and posts sample images over at renderotica.
edit: his earlier wip thread, although activity there has quieted down a lot.
The figure is a low polygon figure, 10 000 polygons (Mike 3 is about 60 000, the naked P4 man is about 28 000), works in Walk Designer, with all standard Poser pose files, and with most Poser BVH files.
The figure is also compatible with PoserSpeak, MIMIC, and Talk Designer (fully compatible with Talk Designer, including the expressions)
The figure is very different to other Poser figures, and makes use of diffuse, specular, bump and displacement maps, and is meant for scenes where you need multiple copies of a figure, or for animations requiring low polygon figures.
While the figure is low polygon, the detail level is still high enough for still renders.
The usage licence of the figure is also very different. The way the figure was designed to be used, the clothing is modelled directly onto the base mesh, instead of being conforming. This results in fully clothed figures of about 12 000 polygons (a fully dressed Poser figure is normally about 160 000 to 400 000 polygons).
So the usage licence will allow clothes makers to use the existing base mesh and rig for creating clothed characters (with some restrictions, like the naked base base must not be able to extracted from the resulting model), and we will also allow the use of the base textures supplied with the model as a base for creating new textures, and so forth.
The figure is finished, we are busy with some extensive beta testing, which may last for a week or two, depending on the feedback from the testers, and we are also working on the licence, readme's, promo renders, etc.
The figure will also be released with loads of free add-ons, and some uniforms and clothes will also be available at the time of release. There will be a developer version which will be free to developers under some restrictions.
The figure will be released at all sites, and I will start the threads in the product showcase forums as soon as I have the all clear from the beta testers.

See, that's the way it should have been done with the Poser Pro figures, just that kind of packaging and licensing approach. Very smart, I hope you do well.

I have seen that a male poser model is in development on several threads here, but I can't find any of them--nor do I know what the figure is called. There is some interest in it on the Daz Forum. Can the creator or others give me some more information so that I can post it there?
