Subject: Looking for a Hunting Rifle

Philywebrider ( ) posted Tue, 06 May 2008 at 12:52 AM · edited Sat, 16 November 2024 at 9:21 PM

Looking for a Hunting Rifle. A bolt action hunting rifle with a scope. Maybe a Remington 700 lookalike. needs to be highly detailed, high poly for close ups. No thumb holes in the stock, or freestyle adjustable stock etc please.

Lots of assault rifles around, but hunting rifles are rare.

LOL, looking for a hunting rifle. You're not a postal worker are you?

I think PoserClub has some free rifles with scopes.

***and no military weapons, thank's though.

*mertext I can't ask you to make a model just for me. I do want to thank you for your generous offer, but hopefully I'll locate a rifle somewhere . I need a model that can be used commericaly, (for a book cover)

If you are a member at Daz, Questor has one in his modern weapons pack, page 10.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

Philywebrider ( ) posted Thu, 08 May 2008 at 1:29 AM

Thanks nickedshield, but Questor doesn't have a modern bolt action rifle. He has some lever action rifles, and modern pistols, but no bolt action rifles.

Blackhearted ( ) posted Thu, 08 May 2008 at 7:27 AM · edited Thu, 08 May 2008 at 7:28 AM

short or long action?
do you need the action articulated w/openable bolt and rounds in the mag, hinged floorplate, etc?
open sights or scope?

i have time to model a rifle but not a scope. i could switch the turrets on this one, remove the sunshade and flip-up caps but it would still look too 'tactical' on a traditional walnut-stocked hunting rifle :(

Unless it is no longer in the ModernGun Pack this was the rifle I mentioned. You might want to dl the pak anyway.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

short or long action?
Long action say a 30-06

do you need the action articulated w/openable bolt and rounds in the mag, hinged floorplate, etc?
WOW! All that would be great, but if push comes to shove, timewise, then
opening and retracting the bolt would be fine.

open sights or scope?
I realize a scoped rifle doesn't require open sights, but if the rifler had open sights and a scope, I could use it in more ways.

The scope you show would work fine as is.

I had downloaded the Questor Moderen guns pack before, but I downloaded it again and reinstalled it in poser. For some reason the bolt action rifle doesnot show up in props. A picture of the weapons shows the bolt action, but it's not there. You're right, the questor paks are well worth down loading. Thanks for your efforts.

You've done some fantastic models, but they all seem to be military weapons.

mertext ( ) posted Thu, 08 May 2008 at 8:10 PM · edited Thu, 08 May 2008 at 8:12 PM

oh, sorry i was working on another project didnt see the response, I did military weapons primarily because that was what was requested.

Did you get your rifle, if not i can work on something over the weekend.

as for using it for comercial purposes, though I would probally make it  a freebie, I usually allow limited comercial use, basically just let me know what its being used for so i can link it and say "yeah..I made that" LOL

@Philywebrider, Looks like the pack hasn't been fixed after all. Look in you geometry folder: Pete: Firearms. import the Model70uv.obj apply the silver, walnut and gold textures, the silver and gold are refelection textures in the reflections folder, the walnut is in the reflections folder, the walnut is in the Questor Arms folder. Then save it as a prop.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

in that case ive got a .300 win mag Remington 700 about 80% done, just need to finish the stock and floorplate. its pretty much to scale, i measured everything with a caliper and entered it numerically but Silo isnt AutoCAD so there were some small liberties taken.

not sure about making it an all-out freebie -- this was originally intended for a pack im working on with a partner. ill send ya a copy for finally getting me off my ass and finishing it, lol.

.300 win mag Remington 700, Perfect! I really appreicate you generosity.
You have nothing listed on your public wish list. Are you interested in anything special?

Blackhearted ( ) posted Fri, 09 May 2008 at 9:30 PM

thanks, but i really dont use much -- more motivation to make things, and branch out this way.
i already appreciate you indirectly motivating me to finish this thing :)

i was in toronto all day today but it should be finished tomorrow, most of its already done.

 Blackhearted:
I could use the scope and the rifle if available.  Great stuff.  What 3d modeling program do you use to make your meshes.  I am new to modeling and wish to make some stuff, but don't have the knowledge to do so yet.  Don't understand the process of what does what in 3d jargon.  Trying to learn 3D Wings, but ............. dumb I guess.  Not much on the NET in step-by-step tutorials in 3D Wings.  Oh well.

Blackhearted ( ) posted Sat, 10 May 2008 at 9:28 AM

silo.
there is a 30 day free trial. making basic stuff is quite easy in silo, and as you learn the tools you can add more and more advanced parts.
guns can be easy because there are a lot of simple cylindrical and flat shapes on them - just gets more difficult if you want to add more detail and accuracy.

if you look for sob-d or box modeling tutorials, they can be applied to pretty much any modeling program. silo has an easily laid out toolset and no superfluous functions that will confuse you - just the tools you use to model.
there are also many silo specific tutorials in the silo forums.
