In my case, with my older computer, creating multiple runtimes cut initial poser open from some 4-5 minutes to under a minute - without doing anything else to the computer. I didn't time it, so I dunno if it's 20 sec or 40 sec, but it's within tolerable time.

With one runtime loaded with several gigs of content, It used to be I'd fire up poser, go fix a sandwich or change a load of laundry, come back, check on it, go back to empty the dishwasher, come back and it's almost loaded.

What Fixer is talking about can also affect things, but in my experience, not as much as keeping lean multiple runtimes.

My own thought is that it depends on many things, I've seen a big improvement since I went to 64 bit and loads of RAM for instance, my own single runtime is 50+Gig and it takes no time to load!!

Yes, a brand new and much faster computer helps too - but I doubt that it's a solution the OP was interested in.
