Subject: Removing content tab in Poser 6?

A few years back, I had removed the content tab in Poser 5, using a tutorial. I was wondering if there is a tutorial out there to remove the content tab and Poser 6?
From what I remember, it was something in the shell file using a text editor. It made a little difference in the speed, and I never use that tab anyhow.

I'd also like to know if I can remove the content tab in P7

Tried everything I could think of - all the pref / xml files, etc. - made no difference at all.

What is the reason for wanting to remove that tab?  I've seen people asking about that but I don't understand why because you don't get anymore room to work and it's not in the way.

Good question, Acadia... as for me, I just couldn't resist the challenge!

Removing that tab will sometimes show increased loading speed for Poser. Basically look for every entry with the word "contenRoom" in it and remove it. NetherWorks still has the PDF file online here:

Thank you  LostinSpaceman,
Some people say they don't see the speed difference, but I did.  That was exactly what I was looking for.
PS. very nice site.
                                     Thanks again!

The speed difference is apparent if you are short on memory space (calls to IE routines), have a slower machine, and seems to be increased if you had access restrictions in place (eg. ZoneAlarm limiting access to 'Net for Poser) as Poser code likes to retry things that don't work.

But the original reason for removing it was that P5 when released was about as stable as a drunk walking the plank off a 19th century sailing galley on the high seas in a gale storm.  And with the Copy Protection code originally present, any sign of Poser throwing a wobbly could cause Interlok to crash your OS in addition to Poser, hiding all traces of the crash cause in the process.  So adding underlying IE code developed by M$ to the mix was not exactly helping!  There was a real need back then.  But it can't hurt, even now, as less code loaded should mean reduced risk.
