I tried turning off "cast shadows" for the hair group, but got the same result.

Would appreciate any suggestions.

From what I am seeing does not look like the shape of the hair you are using. Try this: with out the figure in the scene does the "shadow" show up? If it does not just load the figure and see if it shows up then. Also can you change the position of the door opening? Try it and a great value for open and see if the "shadow" shows. Another thing to try is changing the angle of the lights to see if it still there. What it actually looks like it is a caused by something you cannot see in the scene maybe.

It almost looks like it may be part of a texture map being applied to the door since it has a color and does not look like a typical shadow.

Just a thought.

I don't know the answer to your problem, but as a viewer of your image, that hair "shadow" doesn't look like a shadow to me. It looks like an entirely different hair style than the one the figure is wearing, not to mention the placement of it in relation to the figure.  Are you sure you don't have a second hair prop/figure in the scene?

I agree it is not a shadow. I think it might be the door, but with out know what porp that is I could not say 100%.

Can you identify this shape with any object (or body parts) that is/are in the studio, e.g.,  the Poser scene?

Whatever it is, it's definitely caused by the hair group.  I took nyguy's advice and rendered the scene w/o the figure.  The "effect" disappeared.  Likewise, when I rendered with the figure and set the hair group to invisible, the effect disappeared.

Even stranger, notice in the attached that the same effect seems to occur from the cigarette in the figures mouth. 

I guess I could fix this up in post work, but would sure like to know what the ##@! is going on.

Which version of Poser are you using by chance? And how many lights and what colors? I think I have an idea what is causing this but I don't want to say cause I could be wrong.

I think that is your problem right there, the Ray Trace shadows.  I would try this turn of the ray trace of the shadows and with the full scene try again and let us know what happened.

Well, I rendered the scene w/depth map shadows and, indeed, the "ghost hair" disappeared, but I wasn't real happy with the quality of the shadows.  So I think at this point I'm going to go with ray tracing and paint over it in post work.

I rarely render any more in poser and use D|S more now for my render engine since I can update the scene and the quality is allot better than Poser (the only thing really IMHO that D|S has going for it).
