Quote - That being said, =any= captured motion is going to require cleanup and hand tweaking to get it to behave as desired. Splicing coherent mocap files and monkey-matching disparate ones can be boring, frustrating, and tedious. But it is also skills that a keyframer needs.
There's some nice work happening on mocap/facial recognition by just using a single video source. I forget the name, but i remember a SIGGRAPH demo of this sort where the tool could extract motion just from a single camera rather then the 5-6 currently used. That's probably the next gen of mocap work, though i guess it would still need experienced animators to clean it up and stuff. There's also the Endorphin approach where it sims the human body as a series of rule-based dynamic joints that react to forces and gravity in a realistic manner. All it needs is some decent AI and you would have your fully automated human rig, the kind where you would just 'direct' your character instead of 'posing' it. Well for the initial anim anyway, after which you could tweak it to your liking i suppose.
Not that i expect to see any of this in poser of course, not till poser v15 or something
