I switched to Sree 3D and everything became stable.
Maybe I'm missing a point here, but I really didn't notice anything different, except that now Poser doesn't freeze or crash anymore.i agree
ive tried the OpenGL workarounds but Sree3D is still far more stable.
yes, in OpenGL - when its working - navigating around the viewport is a bit smoother. but ill settle for a touch of viewport lag in exchange for 100% stability anyday, especially considering that the viewport is just a means to an end and it makes no difference in render quality.the problem is not limited solely to Nvidia cards - i just swapped an ATI X1950XT for an Nvidia 8800GTX and performance in OpenGL with both cards was unstable -- although the ATI card actually let me mess around a bit in poser before it randomly crashed, while the Nvidia card crashed right away as soon as i touched anything in the viewport.
before people go blaming Nvidia - consider that i have no problems with this card in OpenGL mode in any other 3D apps, only Poser. ive never had problems with Nvidia running OpenGL in professional apps in the past - and ive been using them for 3D from back when we were resoldering resistors on GeForces to mod them into Quadro Pros. might want to take the problem up with Poser's developers instead.
turning down your hardware acceleration settings systemwide is counterproductive on high end cards seeing that hardware acceleration is the primary purpose of the card ... so make sure you do it using the profile method - setting up an Nvidia profile for poser.exe - and not by turning it down systemwide.
(**edit - 8800 not 9800)
As with you poser is the only app I have this trouble with. Vue 6 inf and other 3d apps I use run without a hitch. It's kinda a run around when letting developers know of problems like this. Poser will say it's the card manufacturer's problem, the card manufacturer will say it's a Poser app problem. Sell, sell sell, but don't find out with the problems are just point a finger somewhere else it's much easier that way.
