I've never tried, but why not  copy the saved hand pose from the pose folder into the hand folder, and then change the extension and see if it works?

I know sometimes people have saved MAT pose files in the camera folder and assigned them a camera extension. In order to use those in the pose folder, you just move them to the pose folder and change the extension.
