Hello Mandy,
In the free stuff area you find all kind of things, from textures, to props, morphs etc.
If you need something for your models or scenes, you can search the free stuff area for the items you need.
Not all items in the freestuff area can be used in Poser.
Ususaly this is stated under the thumbnail or in the info.
Some items need a specific figure to use, like conforming hair and clothes, textures.
Other items can be used as scene fillers, like furniture, weapons etc.
When you download it, it is usual a ZIP file.
When you open the ZIP file, in most cases you find a readme file where you find the info for that item like copieright and usage, how and where to install and how to use it.
.OBJ or Wavefront .OBJ files.
If you download .OBJ files, you can import them into Poser under "File" , "Import" , "Wavefront .obj"
It is posible that .OBJ files are bare and not textured.
I hope this answered some questions.
