I did get my laptop working on my network.  I tried the ethernet cable and it worked fine, it was only the wireless way that didn't work.  So I retyped in my WEP key and that apparently was the problem.  
It would allow me to access the Web via the router but not the network and apparently, they didn't give you the courtesy of programing in a "What's Up" kinda clause when your WEP key isn't excepted.

Also, discovered on the first working attempt, that you have to set up a 'link' to go to another computer AND to get back.  The first time it work, I scrolled over to the other machine and couldn't get back.  CTRL - ALT - DEL got me to the Task Manager on the server, but I couldn't use it because the mouse and keyboard were still stuck on the other machine.  Next step, I killed the client on the machine I was stuck on and that brought me back to the original computer.  :)
