Subject: Hide from Render in Vue Easel

IsaoShi ( ) posted Mon, 27 October 2008 at 2:29 PM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 4:06 AM

A vendor I am trying to test something for told me that in Vue Infinite you can exclude something from the render by selecting Object / Hide from Render.

However, my beginner version (Vue Easel) does not have that option. I want to be able to exclude just one part of a larger object from the render, but I don't want to have to delete that part, because then, if I wanted it to be visible again, I would have to reload and reposition the whole thing.

Is there any way in Vue 6 Easel to exclude an object from the render without deleting it? If there is, I've looked and looked and can't find it.

Thank you for any and all advice!

thinks... I suppose I could just move it out of view...

the fast way is ..
move it on the spot but below surface... i do that when testing ..even when i do renders in V6 inf...
Its faster to put it straight down then to put it on a exclude list etc etc...

Maybe even easier - edit the material and make it 100% transparent, refraction index 1. If it has "variable transparency", you can temporarily remove it.

This will not really remove the object from the scene, of course, the render engine will still make its calculations assuming its presence and so this renders a bit slower than BAR-CODE's solution.

thats how i did it first ..but when the obj to hide has a lot of textures or colapsed textures
its a lot of work and when its for a test you have to set it back again when you need it again..
That why i started to pull em under 😉

Yes, you're absolutely right, in these complex cases your solution is much easier.

moving it can screws a scene up for precision, for example, being slighttly off, can make feet show as floating or burined in the ground, which looks bad
Hide from Render rules ;)

For tests, one can also go to render settings and RENDER SELECTED ONLY

or hide items behind an Alpha plane with flat black :)

Simply move the object or part of the object in another layer, and make this layer invisible. Then in your render options, select to render only visible layers.

The initial question was how to hide an object from render  in easel. My answer is good, provided Easel is like Esprit, and offers more than one layer. Something I don't know, actually!

Easel doesn't provide layers, so I think your best bet, short of deleting the object, would be to move it below the ground plane or whatever terrains are in your scene. As for deleting something, save the scene before and after the delete and it provides a way back (not an ideal solution, but using Easel often requires these kinds of work arounds).

Import your objects.  Save your file as "TEST".  Delete the objects you don't want to render.  Render and evaluate.  Reload scene.  Delete other objects.  Render and evaluate again.  Repeat as necessary.  Kinda like the instructions on shampoo.

That's a great help... my sincere thanks to everyone!
