If only there was a way to eliminate the 'stair sepping' on the arch interiors...looking good to start man. I guess the camera just doesn't fill the gap eh?...too long Brycing...LOL.. ...

You can kill stair-stepping in experimenting with subtle blurring of those lines. Just enough to get rid of the "jaggies" but not too much as to curve the edge away. Working in 16-bit and higher resolutions will also help finer control over the amount of blur.

I'm aware of the stepping problem, and will take steps to alleviate it.....
AS: Actually I had just finished to prototype for this late last night, but yes you are correct , subtle blurring and 16bit.
UVDan: I used a photograph of the front of a building. Then I make a layer. On this layer I start to select areas (like the stone face or trims) and colour them at differing levels of grey, depending on how much they protrude from the front of the building. In other words, the lighter the grey the more that part of the building juts out, and finally use black for the windows etc. Hope that describes the process.
Of course if you buggers knew how to boolean.......;-)

OK. Seems to me like you made the building out of TE. So, you could smooth out the arches using neg cylinders....in a boolean operation.

Oh cool! I'll pop over and we can discuss booleans!

Dhama, I'd love to, my friend. But you guys talk about sharing a coffee. Does this mean you're too tight to buy a round?
Bobby, when you get up to speed, maybe you'd like the job?

I just got a 'generic error' when I tried 16 bit
-I use Photoshop to make my 16-bit images, and sometimes I will have forgotten to make sure the image is 16-bit grayscale, not 16-bit RGB. Bryce will give an error when you try to bring in a 16-bit RGB image.
I'm not sure if that was the problem you were having, but I thought I would mention it for anyone's future use.

Bring a straw.... what's the problem....

I'm a lot better but hate ver 5.5 so don't do a lot and the render times are so insane for any idea I've, with the exception of my one fluky contest entry, come up with I rarely have the computer time to finish a render as my workstation is actually that and spends a fair bit of time buying my food if ya get my drift...bitching over..I could never teach as good as all you longtimers in the one app...I'm far too Imagine rooted I fear to teach anything else.. ...

Beautifully done... I modeled a building front a while ago and would love to do the rest of the building facade in this manner... I really like this Dhama.. Excellent use of Bryce's terrain lab.

Holy Shit man...I am for sure blown away now...had a stab at this a day or so ago and even creating the maps itself is daunting. Having tried an arch window, my hat is certainly off to you...brilliant work indeed.. ...

I wish you guys would stop uploading photographs to the Bryce gallery.

...OK that tears it, Gonna fire up Bryce tonight when I get home and play a little more with terrains and primitives. It'll be something a lot simpler mind you but I have to give it a try.
This is a very interesting process which nets some really impressive results.
BTW this forum is now bookmarked.

Well that just makes my efforts well worth the time spent. I wish you well with your modelling.
If people just realised how useful and how remarkable Bryce is, there would be a lot more using it.
I'm convinced that Bryce is the only software that can do almost anything and give excellent results without the user really trying.
...one of the things that made me a bit hesitant at first to really dive into Bryce were the render times I kept hearing about. However based on my experiments, I now realise those are using the highest render and ray trace settings with very complex scenes. Even though the render process is slower, I notice my system runs a fair bit cooler than in Carrara and Studio which I think is why I kept experiencing render crashes after 2 - 2.5 hrs with those applications.
...about 400$ to go until I can get my dedicated 3D machine.
