I used craigslist several time, for selling and buying appliances, to find a contractor to mount a flatscreen - and did a beautiful job very reasonably),  for garage sales, and my friend whom is HR recruiter for a local engineering firm uses it to post jobs and read through resumes, and to find roommates.

For comics and things that happen via mail, instead of face to face money exchange, I would probably go with ebay.
