All obj files should go into the Geometries folder within the Runtime. In the case of Daz Studio, the pathway would be (on PC) Programs/Daz/Studio/content/Runtime/Geometries/

In the case of simple obj files, you would have to call them out manually by using File/Import in Daz Studio. 

As for the content installer, being on a Mac I'm left to my own devices and have to install everything manually by dragging and dropping them into the correct folders. I can't be of much help in this department, I regret.
