In Poser I use a maximum brightness white cylindrical rod, as in the thread at this link. In Bryce I set it also to "do not cast shadows", "do not receive shadows", "light". As raygun beams would emit light, this is where I would want radiosity to get it more realistic, if Poser 5 or Bryce 5 will have it. Making a raygun beam any other color would make it darker, as each of the 3 screen primary colors (red, green, blue) can only be set to brightnesses 0 or 1 or 2 or etc to 255; I had this nuisance with making a blue oxyacetylene blowtorch flame look realistic rather than like a shiny blue plastic bud : if I could make the flame red=green=0, blue = 2000 (and preferably also set the flame to "act as light source, radiosity on"), it would be fine, but computer screen phosphors wouldn't obey it; all I can do is make it maximum white as if the brightness had overexposed that bit of the camera's film. Radiosity is when anything can act as a light source and light rays are followed through many bounces. Currently in Bryce a ray of light is only seen if it comes from a Bryce light or the sun or the moon, and bounces ONCE (not more times) before reaching the current camera. But radiosity is very expensive in rendering time.
