First of all i don't know if this thread starts in the right forum in the right way ...but i hope the moderators will move it if it dont ;-)

Thank you very much for the win - i'm very very honoured - and it was a great challenge and so many great entrys.

Now it leaves me with a bit of a problem - the next challenge - i don't quite have an idea except for one - but that one may have been already used or are to close to another newer challenge - anyways - here goes: Ancient Greece, Rome or Egypt as it would have been had the empires first started in the year 3000 AFTER Christ - now i think there are many possibilities in this - also for those of you who are magicians in modelling in bryce and the year 3000 is so far away that one can imagine almost any sceanrio...

The rules ...anything goes ...except heavy postwork

What say you good people to that idea???

grafikeer ( ) posted Mon, 10 November 2008 at 1:17 PM

Hmmmm...let me see...ancient Egyptian,Greek or Roman Empires re-interpreted in the Future...sounds good to me...what say we add all Bryce,no imports into the mix(did I just hear dhama fall off his chair in shock-lol?)

I'll make This Thread a Sticky with The word Theme in the Title.

The final rules are up to you nazul.....You can allow a couple days for feedback, decide on the factors you like and we can dress it up for the Final Theme & Title name.

Nice start so far....

I like the theme. I don't see anything wrong with limiting the buildings to being built in Bryce, but some of the extras that dress up a scene, like people, animals, plants, curtains (I never could get the hang of making curtains out of the terrain editor) and fountains etc. might be a bit too hard to make all in Bryce. My 2 1/2 cents worth.
But if Nazul says anything goes then I don't have a problem with that either, it is up to the winner to call the rules :)

Should be interesting to see how other view Ancient Egyptians or Roman in the light of the 29th Century... Something along the line of that Star Trek (Old Series) episode, where Kirk, Spock landed on a planet with ancient Roman takeoff. Hmmm, should be an interesting challenge...

No, no, dhama, no no...  The name of the episode was "Bread and Circuses"

Kirk, Spock and McCoy are captured on an Earth-like planet that possesses a 20th-century civilization with a twist: a Roman-style imperial system. They learn they are not the only Earthmen who have had to deal with it as they may.

Had to go to Memory Alpha to dig this one up... :tongue2:

That particular episode was only 20th century because they were using 1960's studio cameras to film and broadcast to the masses, and if you look at the sets, they were typical roman 'theatre' like sets. Nothing really to suggest futuristic Romans.
It did bring to mind another thing though with Startrek, the Romulans have always looked typical of futuristic Romans, so maybe a look at their achitecture/starships might inspire.

Hi great masters of the challenges.
The idea is thrilling, a lot although a scene of that type is very complex to do only in Bryce, but it would like the rule to be taken for that level. A SCENE ONLY DONE WITH BRYCE.
Do they want larger challenge?
Congratulations for the idea Nazul.

SndCastie ( ) posted Tue, 11 November 2008 at 9:30 AM

some of us don't have the skill to do it all in bryce LOL I have used Bryce since 1999 and still haven't been able to have the time to learn to model in it.  The buildings I probably could do but not the people or such that makes the extras.

In the case of illustrations I agree in using external models, but only use that alternative in last case.
In a challenge where the retouchings and inclusions of objects done with other software they are allowed, he/she should have limits, or then to be specified as mixed.

Theres an image at the following link of the 'star trek' Romulan capital Ki Baratan. Extremely useful for giving inspiration for this unusual challenge I think.: http://startrek.wikia.com/wiki/Image:Ki_Baratan.jpg

So... What is it? No imports at all?

skiwillgee ( ) posted Wed, 12 November 2008 at 8:19 PM

ditto Ang25 and dan whiteside.

The word "empire" has connotation of civilization and people.  Zero imports would severely limit artistic freedom of a visualized scene for some potential entrants.

I can't make a decent worm much less a human in Bryce boolean modeling.

Choice is ultimately Nazul's

grafikeer ( ) posted Wed, 12 November 2008 at 11:43 PM

I agree with regards to importing people or small props that are hard to build in Bryce, but buildings and larger objects should be Bryce modelling....let's test our skills in this challenge. What say you Nazel?

nazul ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2008 at 12:05 AM

I think it should be allowed to import objects - theres a lot of us who can't model in bryce - me included :-) - so lets go on making some cool renders :-)

dhama ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2008 at 2:47 AM

I personlly have no problem with imports unless the imports don't make the scene..... I mean, importing a few characters are nothing compared to importing a futuristic ready build city as the main theme which could so easily be built in Bryce. Like I said before, it's a Bryce challenge..... it's not a 3D art challenge... or 2D art challenge for that matter.

nazul ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2008 at 4:40 AM

Allright then ...how about import of persons allowed ...all buildings and other stuff must be made in Bryce?

ThunderStone ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2008 at 5:39 AM

Then that eliminates me because I couldn't model my way out of the wet paper bag to save my creative hide in Bryce.

Oh well, I should be so fortunate to have made it this far and enjoy the rendering fun here.

I think I know what the rules will be when dhama wins a challenge (big, big grin)

Nazul won the last one, Nazul can allow or disallow per his prerogative.  Why would we want him to apply rules that would eliminate him from "friendly" competition when it was a subject of his making.  He earned it.  Let him have it.  We are fortunate our 2  cents worth is being considered.

If I ever win again.  It will be the "shiniest sphere over water."

grafikeer ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2008 at 9:58 AM

Don't let us sway your decision Arne....these are just suggestions thrown out for consideration only...you pick what you want to see used, and we'll follow suit!

johnyf ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2008 at 11:19 AM

Nazul....stick to your original thoughts and have the competition you want!

dhama ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2008 at 12:08 PM

Thunderstone or anyone else that believes that can't build in Bryce... this is what the challenge is about, and we are all here to help... as someone said before, the challenge is also a learning tool for beginners... so please do give it a go... there are a lot of helpful people here.. and in the end you will become a better builder and also realise exactly what Bryce can do.

nazul ( ) posted Fri, 14 November 2008 at 5:55 AM

Okay - the opinions are so different that i must make a descesion - so here goes ...if you MUST import ...then its allowed ...but if you do then it should be said so in the image text ...and maybe it is a possibility to get help by dhama and others instead of importing objects. But we have to get going so as i mentioned before imports are allowed if you MUST ;-)

No lets make some renders ...ok?

Actually I'm kinda looking forward to it because it gives me a chance to model something - a building - in Bryce - whereas I used to just import stuff in

I think it will be a challenge - at least for me!  - to be able to make something as simple as a building in Bryce!  As a matter of fact I have started my entry now and just starting to create the one building is driving me crazy - but I'm having some fun at it - LOL!

Actually I couldn't even find where to submit my entry!  Perhaps I'm just being a tad over-anxious but I managed to model some things in Bryce for the contest and I'm very proud that I got THAT far - so I'm anxious and ready to submit my entry

Hi dhama.
My problem is not the link for postage, but to know because my image was not still liberated, or because she doesn't appear in the page of entrance of the challenge.
In the previous challenges, soon after the postage (at the most 1 day) the image was liberated to be seen.
I only want to know if there was some change in the rule.
If the images will be liberated all at once.

Hugs.

Well everything is well again!  My entry has been submitted and I must admit that I'm kind of surprised because the entrant's name is given with their entry?  Guess I have been away from this particular kind of contest for too long because I thought the entries were n't supposed to have the entrant's names included?

I noticed some of the other contests do not include the entrants name.
