Due to the price years ago, I have been a user of PSP as one I could afford back then but now want to make my first purchase of Photoshop after seeing how much it can do that PSP cant. I see all the marketplace items talking about stlyes and scripts or actions etc., and the availability to do so much more now is too big to hold back any longer. I have no idea of the growth of Photoshop other than reading about Photoshop7 then CS3 and now googling for prices I see CS4.  
My question is- is this the latest version out and the one to purchase if I am going to take the plunge?   I also figure I might as well get the latest because I may not be upgrading too often so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Not sure about CS4 as I havent read much about it but most certainly I found CS3 a really big move from CS2,especially the RAW converter.
If you can afford it I guess CS4 is probably the way to go.
I dont use all the feaures like actions etc so I guess it depends on what you final use for it will be.

If you can get CS4 go for it. ne advice is download the trial before buy... I used another 2D package before too, then I need to use the brushes and some other things that it doesnt support very well, so I tried the Elements version and for what I do its OK to me and just 99 bucks. So try before buy so you dont expend so much money in something that you will not use...
