THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: How do I make Bryce work in mac os 10.5?

Well the title says it all.  At first, I thought it was just a problem with my new intel laptop, then Iwent to my wife's powerpc machine and... still doesn't work. I have 6.0, so I'm hoping a full re-install of the latest version will help.

Failing that, any suggestions?

Welcome! A little more info could help :-)
Where is it failing - installation? when you start it up? when you try to use it?
Are you getting any error messages?
Did you download  and install  Content 1-3 and Presets 1-4?
Did you let the installer install DAZ Studio 1.8?

I have B6.1.13.1 running successfully on MacPro Quad/OS10.5.4 and a PPC G4/OS10.4.9

Probably a stupid question, but you are trying to install the MAC version aren't you?

I did a standard install on my G5 running 10.5 and have had no problems at all. I downloaded the latest version from DAZ which is the same as Dan Whiteside listed and everything is fine. Make sure you are installing the latest version for a Mac running 10.5.

Well, I reset my download, so I should have 6.1-point something.

I'm running 10.5.5 on a 2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. My previous version was 6.0, which I was able to get to run sing Rosetta. Now I have downloaded 6.1, which starts okay. The problem now is mostly file access. I can't save br6 files, ordinary image save fails(image export seems to work), I can't load png terrain hf's and I can't load image textures.

I'd rather not drop Bryce, but right now if blender could import 16-bit displacement images I'd use that.

Yeah. I do have XP on Bootcamp and I have downloaded the PC version just in case. I know sometimes Windows versions get updated more often and XP is fairly antiquous.

That's a desperation move... akin to blender.

Oh yeah. It also doesn't save my license code. I have to input that on every startup.

dan whiteside ( ) posted Sun, 23 November 2008 at 8:03 PM

On the Mac you need to add the .br6 extension when saving the Bryce scene (or do it in the Finder).
Broken Save Image As is a known bug.
I can load 16-bit non-interlaced PNGs created in Photoshop CS using the Terrain Editor's Picture button. 16-bit TIFFs don't work for me.
I can also load 8 bit PNG, PSD, TIFF and JPG image textures.
Having said that the license problem is disturbing - that could point to a serious  install problem which I'm not sure how to fix.

I think Dan is right about the install thing.

Funny, during my shower this morning I thought of 2 other things to try:

Command + I the Bryce Application Icon and look at the Ownership and Permissions and see if you have Read and Write permissions. If it's Read only then the license won't get written. If so just change it to Read and Write, presuming you have administration privileges.

If that's not it, the other thing to try is to de-install Bryce and do a Repair Permissions  by loading the Disk Utility app (usually found in the Apllications> Utilities folder) and then re-installing Bryce. This one's a real long shot but it sometimes this fixes that type of problem.

Well, I fixed the permissions. Came up with that on my own ;).  There were a lot of problems after I had to delete a user which had become troublesome.  Not the person, I just had to backup my son's data and destroy his user after he had found a new and exciting way to crash the system... hard.

Still didn't work until after I had d/led the application file about three times. Now it works, yay.

Interesting about the broken Save Image As. That seems like it would be a relatively easy fix and early on the prioritization. Is there a patch in the pipeline any time soon?

EDIT: Thank you for the help, especially Dan.

PS: Now I need to Target Mode my old laptop and recover my user objects and materials. In all the excitement and repeated installs it looks like I ate my backup. Me ineptum.

Your more then welcome - glad you got it to work!
Currently DAZ is not developing Bryce at all...
